About the Centre
The Centre for Asian Regional Studies is dedicated to the comprehensive study of Asia's political, strategic, economic, and security dynamics, with particular emphasis on India's immediate and extended neighbourhood. As Asia continues to shape the global balance of power, the Centre examines regional developments, interstate relations, geopolitical competition, economic integration, and emerging security challenges across South, Southeast, East, Central, and West Asia. It seeks to generate policy-oriented research that strengthens understanding of regional affairs and supports informed decision-making on India's neighbourhood and Indo-Pacific engagement. The Centre promotes interdisciplinary research through strategic assessments, policy briefs, regional studies, dialogues, and collaborative projects involving scholars, diplomats, policymakers, and regional experts.
Areas Covered
The Centre conducts research on the political, economic, and strategic developments across Asia through its South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia Desks. It examines regional geopolitics, foreign policy, security cooperation, economic connectivity, regional organisations, border issues, energy security, emerging strategic partnerships, and India's bilateral and multilateral engagement throughout Asia. Particular attention is given to regional stability, great-power competition, connectivity initiatives, and evolving security architectures.
