The Global Affairs Division focuses on understanding the political, diplomatic, economic, legal, and institutional processes shaping the contemporary international system. It examines how states and other international actors interact, cooperate, negotiate, and respond to global challenges, while exploring changing patterns of political and economic influence across regions and emerging centres of global power. Key areas include International Relations, Foreign Policy, Diplomacy, International Organisations, Global Governance, International Law, Comparative Politics, Regional Studies, and the role of the Global South and emerging powers in international affairs. The Division also examines conflict, peace, and security, including conflict prevention, mediation, peacebuilding, and post-conflict recovery through political, diplomatic, social, and developmental perspectives.
Particular attention is given to international development, development cooperation, migration, human mobility, climate and environmental diplomacy, and global political economy. These areas include the study of trade, finance, investment, economic interdependence, migration and displacement, climate cooperation, environmental governance, and sustainable development. The Blue Economy is also explored in relation to international economic activity and the sustainable use of marine resources. Through research, publications, seminars, lectures, diplomatic simulations, regional studies, policy discussions, and academic collaborations, the Division seeks to develop informed understanding of contemporary international affairs and encourage critical engagement with diplomacy, global governance, regional developments, international cooperation, and the changing global order.
